Chemtools ChemTig™ Dye Penetrant Test Kit

ChemTig™ Dye Penetrant Test Kit is a non-destructive fault-finding system used to detect microscopic cracks and flaws on the surface of metals, plastics, and ceramics, revealing them as red marks on a white background.

Fault and crack detection for weld seam quality assurance is a simple 5-step procedure which uses the following 3 materials supplied in this kit:

ChemTig™ Prep-Solv Metal Cleaner & Degreaser is a blend of fast drying aliphatic solvents, formulated to effectively penetrate and dissolve a diverse range of oils, coolants, greases, and waxes. It is compatible with most metals and alloys, including steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and copper. Prep-Solv leaves no visible residues and can be used to wipe away finger prints, machine oil, and greases prior to welding. It will also remove any remaining anti-spatter residue from metal surfaces prior to painting or powder coating. This product contains no CFCs or chlorinated solvents.

ChemTig™ Red Dye Penetrant is a high quality spray-on inspection liquid, formulated to seep into microscopic cracks and locate critical surface-breaking defects in all non-porous materials, including plastics, ceramics and most metals. Cracks and flaws are revealed as red marks on a white background after the application of ChemTig™ Detecting Developer. Red Dye Penetrant is recommended for weld seam quality assurance, and is vital for detecting non-visible hair-line cracks in pressure vessels and tanks, engine blocks and automotive parts, valves and pipes, and lifting devices.

ChemTig™ Detecting Developer consists of a white powder suspended in solvents. It is applied as a final coating after surfaces have been prepared with ChemTig™ Prep-Solv Metal Cleaner & Degreaser, and ChemTig™ Red Dye Penetrant, whereby it develops and reveals microscopic cracks and flaws by pulling the entrapped penetrant to the surface by capillary action. Detecting Developer is recommended for weld seam quality assurance, and is vital for detecting non-visible hair-line cracks in pressure vessels and tanks, engine blocks and automotive parts, valves and pipes, and lifting devices.
